The Beatles Still Feel Alive to Me
The Beatles are one of my favorite bands because their music never feels like it belongs to only one time. Some bands sound locked into the year they came from. The Beatles do not feel that way to me. Their songs still feel open, still feel fresh, and still feel like you can find something new in them every time you go back.
That is why I keep listening to them. It is not just because they are famous. It is not just because people say they are important. It is because the music still works. A song like “Let It Be” can feel simple, but it carries so much feeling. “A Day in the Life” still sounds strange, beautiful, and huge. “Something” has that kind of melody that feels impossible to argue with. “Here Comes the Sun” feels like light coming through after a long stretch of bad weather.
My favorite Beatles albums are the ones where you can hear them changing. Revolver feels like the band stepping into another world. Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band feels colorful and creative, like they were building their own universe. The White Album is messy in the best way, with so many different moods pulling in different directions. Abbey Road feels polished, powerful, and almost like a perfect ending. And Let It Be has that human feeling I always come back to.
What I love about The Beatles is that they did not stay in one lane. They could write a perfect pop song, a strange experiment, a heavy rocker, a sad ballad, or something that feels completely outside normal rock music. And somehow, it still felt like them.
That is why they still matter to me. The Beatles are not just a band I respect. They are a band I still enjoy. There is a big difference.
Some music is important because history says it is important.
The Beatles are important because the songs still hit.
